ivi grace - surgery update 1

Wow, this day has been exhausting! I take no responsibility for the incoherentness of this blog post.

Where to start. First, we were planning on a nice, relaxing family time on Tuesday night and leave Hendersonville around 8 a.m. on Wednesday morning to be in Charlotte for 10 a.m. with a 12:30 p.m. surgery time. Instead, we got a last minute call that the surgery was moved to 8:00 a.m. this morning, so we frantically packed, got to Charlotte late, checked into the Ronald McDonald House and got about 3 hours of sleep to be at the hospital for 5:00 a.m.

They took Ivi Grace back around 7:30 and she was put under soon after. However, when the blood screening came back, there was some technical issues that my tired brain can’t explain except to say that it delayed the surgery for 3 and a half hours, while all the time Ivi Grace is under anesthesia just laying on an operating room bed. From a parents perspective, quite frustrating. Finally, surgery began around 11:15 and the doctor was very pleased with it. He actually did more to her head than originally intended, literally taking many parts of her skull out, reshaping them, even moving one from one place to another. Crazy carpentry work, but grateful it can be done. Also, they did use Christi’s or my blood. We are not sure and may never know, which may or may not be a good thing. If they gave her Christi’s blood and she acts bad in the future, but I don’t know that, I would miss out on the great opportunity of blaming Christi...what fun. Any case, I digress.

Ivi Grace is in PICU and will be at least till tomorrow. She is uncomfortable and in pain, which the doctors and nurses are doing their best to address without overdosing her on drugs. It’s a fine line sometimes. Just pray that her pain level will decrease rapidly and that Christi and I can get some rest tonight. We really are running on vapor, although we feel God’s hand in all this. If you have specific questions I am not answering, just send me a message. I’ll do it tomorrow in my next blog post. Until then, thank you for jamming the phone lines of heaven with the prayers of His saints today. Gonna sleep a couple of hours then relieve Christi. Love you all. Goodnight!
